Abstract

Abstract

To overcome the difficulties in estimation of fractal dimension for fracture surfaces, anew method of fractal measurement called the projective covering method(PCM) is proposed. Based on the measurements by means of a laser scanner, the fractal dimension Ds∈[2, 3) of fracture surface is directly estimated by using this method. The research results agree well with the theory of fractal geometry and measurement data.
